Think Twice Before maybe....don't second guess after

This comes to my fundamental philosophy, and the sole method I have developed to get the little voice inside to STFU when necessary. At times when I regret certain decisions or choices made in the past I imagine I have been given an opportunity to go back in time, and with full current knowledge, to try again. The deal is, though, you have no control over anything that happened after that point in time. You cannot guarantee that you still get to have everything you have now. To this day, I cannot think of ever accepting that choice. I have too many blessings heaped apon me now, and would not risk any of them to fix a past error. Thus, all the choices I have made MUST actually be the right ones, and there is no reason to regret or second guess ANYTHING. I might choose differently next time, but I won't go back.

Aaah but what about thinking too much!

I agree that thinking twice is the best thing in the world. Recognizing that there is always another side, story or perspective is a valuable tool in our inter-relationships with others. But what about the fussing, worrying and nagging we do to ourselves. The constant flow of thoughts that reverberate in our minds telling us what we should have done, what we should have said or what we actually did or said. I worry about worrying - Is that crazy or what! The question I ask is how is it that people form opinions of us that are different from how we see ourselves? Is it that they observe things within us from a better perspective or is it that we hide ourselves from others. Rather a philosophical thought and discussion. Makes me crave a good curried mince, red wine and some custard to end the evening.

Still trying to keep it all together

I'm still trying to keep all of this together. I have been neglectful of this blog for a while because my mind has been consumed with busy thoughts. I once went to a course on time management and was surprised to find that the first thing we learnt was that we actually have much more time in our days than we realize. The instructor said we should all take half an hour in the morning to plan out our days entire events including evening plans. This baffled me at the time. I of course didn't have family/work life balance at the time. I also had a friend that told me she would plan her dinner the night before. This too baffled me at the time. I asked myself "How in the world could you plan something like that so far in advance?" "What happened to spontaneity?" I also justified my lack of planning with the rationale that I was much more enthused by the European form of cooking and meal planning - buy what was fresh at the market. Over the last few months I have ...

Round the world in 6 days.

So they called me on Friday 03/24/06 and said go to the Far East on Sunday 03/26. This was the trip that was supposed to happen a few weeks ago which got cancelled. So they sent me a first class ticket and said go. Initially to Tokyo, but when I got there they said go on to Singapore. This is the same as flying to London from here, so coming back is like SA to NYC and then to London. So I decided to wait over in Tokyo for a First class flight back rather than doing a marathon in coach, the only class available on the direct flight from Singapore to NY. American does a great job in First Class to Japan, catering to Japanese and American tastes. The Japanese meal was as good as any on JAL and a wonderful array of variety. The sleeping arrangement is very good, but nothing like Singapore where you get your own little office, which converts, into a bed. The real advantage of the twosie bed system is that you can travel together with another person. On JAL or Singapore you are on your own f...
