Year End
Another year ending in piles of Xmas wrapping and squeals of pleasure in our families houses.
However difficult each year might be, we have had 41 happy endings so far.
I am so proud of my children and the great job they have done with theirs.
The first ever family get together with good friends went as well as it could.
Everyone got along and it was fun to renew old acquaintances with Stephanie a cousin we have not seen since 1967, though they live one state away, and my sister who has never been to North America. I think even the kids had a sense of having some larger family out there somewhere.
The seven year olds, eight as of yesterday, were so sweet dressed and performing as waiters, writing orders on their pads and bringing people drinks by name.
There was only one argument, and that was a Democrat versus Republican ado about whether Global warming is happening or not.
My Republican friend foolishly took on the head of Astrophysics at Columbia University and was too full of single malt to back down on his assertion that Bush was doing the right thing about it, nothing, because it was not happening.
This to a man who is currently leading the examination of climatic conditions on Mars for signs of life.
This year our rotation takes us to Chicago, where if the girls are frisky, they will pick us up at the airport. We thought we would warm up for our windy city visit last weekend in Florida. Fat chance. It was 54 degrees and rained all weekend.
We can use the break as this week's transit strike was a nightmare end to a difficult year.
When I came back to the office today, everyone was clearing out the offices of the dozens of people laid off in the last few weeks due to the agency's loss of Lipitor which they had helped build into one of the world's largest drugs.
A year when BMW rewarded their longstanding agency who had helped them overtake Mercedes by dismissing them to "see what's out there" and Minis shop fired them to take the bigger VW account. Loyalty is clearly dead and any reliance on it futile.
So to cap a very hard year that began with Lucille's life in the balance and ended with her having a clean bill of health, I wish all of my family who have been supportive, funny, good counsel, friends, fun a very happy new year.
