Thought for the day
We just went live with our big system (and there was much rejoicing) and one of the obligatory "jolly good show chaps" emails that came around from on high included the following quote...I thought it was a good one. It is also a fine example of the correct use of my favorite punctuation mark, the semi-colon
Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination are omnipotent." Calvin Coolidge

Watching my son skate at St Mike's in Toronto at 11 years old with collapsing ankles skating with kids who had been doing it since before they could walk was an excercise in pain and pride.
The result of this persistance paid off as a capable house league player for North Toronto
Watching him now coach his daughter Abby on the ice is lump in the throat proof that persistance pays off.
Being in the class with him and ultimately his graduation with an MBA from the University of Chicago while working full time and bringing up a small girl was further testament to his persistance.
My wife going back to school twice as an adult, first as a chef for two years, then as an artist for five years, four in Canada and one in the USA.
My feelings of pride and admiration walking into her first exhibition at the National Arts Club in New York for the first time are still vivid.
Then there is my persistant daughter.
Skating and skiing came naturally as did languages. But Persistant has been in the way she has gone about making a home for and raising her family. The way she has managed and delicately balanced her career and family needs.
Her persistance at keeping the broader nuclear family together including visiting and communicating with great Granny Schur at 90, waning in a nursing home accross the Atlantic.
Her persistance at giving her children something ours did not have, a real relationship with their grandparents, is both admired and appreciated.
Persistance "Omnia Vincit"
Imagine (my new favorite word)leaving your home, your country and going to someplace new with two small children.
Imagine if you can going from something you know into the unkown.
I have only emulated that which I have seen.
Great Sentiments Dave and Dad. Well done on the final project Dave.
Cheers!
