Chicago Invasion Redux

Big lesson learned, you can't plan these things too well. If you read my Chicago Invasion, we did some or none of the above, but a whole lot more.

But despite the over the top Six Flags Adventure and the American Girl experience, as well as the other wonderful moments with Emily and Abby in NYC, the Aquarium, Childeren's museum, IMax etc., the highlight for me was watching Mom enjoying the kids from her new porch as they ran and rode the neighborhood streets in safety and joy with the other children on their last night.

She had waited over a year for this moment and it was wonderful to see.

It was a great visit. The girls enjoyed everything about it. Somehow the simple things like finding shells on the beach seem to count as much as bigger trips. Especially for Emmy.

Abby loves her roller-coasters, and her tea with Granny and the dolls.

I enjoyed the two days I got to sleep in. It was also fun just seeing them enjoying their time with you.

They are something those two. Capable of being really awful (I'm sure the Yale Club will be introducing age limits for entry soon), to being incredibly good (someone on the plane told them he'd never met two better behaved children in all the time he's travelled). Gottal love DVD's on the computer :-)

In 1969, just before Cindy was born, I joined JWT in Cape Town. I gave up my company car and we bough a second hand LH Drive VW with a half a clutch. I remember borrowing the JWT Ford Escort station wagon to take Mom to the Booth Memorial hospital and again to fetch Cindy and Mom. Testing out this iPhone blogger application and I'm struck with the concept that there should be a reality show for overbearing mothers entitled "What not to Mummy" Each week they would profile some the worst overbearing mothers and teach them how to lighten up a little and let their kids grow up already. Tim comes to town

Tim is here, all 6'1" of him, a virtual eating machine. Said hello to New York with a midnight street hot dog chased by a Baconator from Wendy's for the car home. Followed by a mound of Indian food at the mandatory Coramandel first night.(Followed by the usual breakfast of my leftover curry). 20 Crabs at the crabfest while sucking on a Long Island Iced Tea following a picnic and a couple of beers. Record amounts of fried Calamari and Japanese Tempura. Gallons of multicolored liquids consumed without visibly swallowing. Love every minute of time with this accomplished young man nicknamed "Jeeves" as he chauffeurs us everywhere.
